Live the Magic
We are only as strong as we are united

THE INTERNATIONAL STATUTE OF TRANSPARENCY

"On this day, the thirteenth of June of the year two thousand and thirty four, in the spirit of honesty, safety and the equality of all mankind, the magical population and the non-magical population will no longer remain hidden from one another, but will be unified as one. Rather than withholding from one another, we today take a step toward a better future, as the union of two such extraordinary cultures and resources promises a betterment in quality of life for all. This statute applies to every living being that is capable of thinking and reasoning for itself. Either Discrimination or Deceptiveness in respect to the statute are both considered the highest form of noncompliance in all countries involved, and are punishable as treason. Every world leader, both magical and non-magical, have signed this statute in agreement that Transparency between the respective communities of the world is the best path toward knowledge and peace."

The Inclined Incendiary
Artie was standing over the balcony in the Astronomy Tower. He had been crying a lot lately. It had always been his weakness, but he'd never show anyone his true self. The only person who saw him cry was Emma, and she was gone now. He didn't have many people who loved him, and he had trust issues, nothing ever went right for him, nothing at all. It was getting dark, but he was waiting for a Meteor Shower. He looked towards the sunset. This was his last year and he was finishing it alone. He had pushed all his friends away since Emma left, and has been since planning his own future. His own destiny. He had to decide, Journalist or Professor. He looked down at the courtyard, students had gathered below. Suddenly he heard a loud bang and a bright light sped upwards. "Fireworks!" He muttered under his breath before storming off down stairs. He got to the courtyard, furious, these kids were making him miss the meteor shower. "Who set it off?" He yelled, the kids mainly ran away. Artie was left standing beside Matthew, another prefect. "Did you see who did this? Or did you just arrive?" Artie asked, he had to get to the bottom of this.

what matters most
is how well you walk through the fire
Fire came in all shapes and forms - of course, fire in its purest form was always superior. But that wasn’t to say that other types of fire weren’t just as important! And really, someone who was a fire master should be able to control all of it - flames, lava, lightning… obnoxiously loud explosives. Controlling lightning wasn’t that easy to practice, as you sort of had to wait for there to be lightning to practice with it, and then it was incredibly dangerous because you could easily get electrocuted and die and all that shit if you didn’t know what you were doing. But explosives - fireworks, in particular - Matthew could get ahold of pretty easily. A quick trip to Zonko’s was all that was needed to stock up, and before long he had them all set up on the grounds, ready to go.

While fireworks were awesome no matter what, the real reason Matthew bought them wasn’t to enjoy them. It was to disect them and study them and figure out how to make his own, with epic charms and shapes and everything. And he did, and he learned a lot - and that meant that now it was time to set off the rest of the fireworks to actually enjoy them. Clearly, the courtyard would be the best place, so Matthew waited for the sky to darken and headed down to the stone area, with an armful of fireworks and a small entourage of people who wanted to see the show. Setting them up took far longer than lighting them. As soon as they were arranged, Matthew stepped back and lit them in turn with his wand, And then, all there was to do was wait. A huge grin spread across his face as, all at once, colors sprang out across the sky, along with the sound of giant explosions. It went on for a good few minutes when… all of a sudden, everyone seemed to scatter. What? Why? Frowning, Matthew turned around just as he heard a voice yelling. Who was making such a fuss? They were just fireworks.

Oh. Arcturus. Matthew internally sighed, but didn’t run with the rest of the students because it wouldn’t look very good. Being that he was a prefect and wasn’t supposed to really be setting off fireworks in the first place. ”Hey Arcturus!” He did have to hold back his laugh though, when the other boy asked him if he’d seen anything. ”No, I just got here myself. Heard the - erm, the explosion.” Hopefully Arcturus wouldn’t see straight through his terrible lie.

Not Again, Artie

Artie somewhat believed Matthew, he was a prefect after all. "Any idea who could have done this?" Artie didn't have any leads or suspects, but this was something he had to look into. "Matthew, I want you to help me find out who did this trickery. You know more students than I do" Artie wasn't sure Matthew really wanted to be doing this. But again, this was another excuse to talk to somebody, and he found Matthew a little cute. Not many people knew he was Bisexual, it wasn't something he wanted to share. He hoped Matthew had some idea, or this was going to be a long mystery. He looked up at the sky, nightfall was approaching, alas, he'd miss the meteor shower. 'Damn you delinquents!' He thought to himself. It was going to be a long night, and it was now personal. Sometimes Artie hated being a Prefect, due to the insane lack of free time, add that with study and he didn't have time to do things like watch meteor showers, it was a pity. But he did like being a prefect, in fact, he loved it, he got to boss people around, which he enjoyed doing.

God, was he trying to test Matthew’s lying skills? Did Arcturus already know that he was responsible, and was he just baiting Matthew by trying to catch him in some horrible lie? Matthew would be tempted to think so, if Artie hadn’t come storming in so believably, looking for the culprit. And Matthew had been the only one not to scatter, so the signs didn’t exactly point to him. Except for the fact that they were dealing with fireworks. Anything with fire in the name inherently drew a giant red flashing arrow right over Matthew’s head. But that point seemed to have escaped Artie, so Matthew decided to go along with it, ”No idea,” he replied, keeping his words short to hide his terrible lying abilities. He had to stop himself from bursting into laughter, though, when Artie commanded - commanded - him to help find the person responsible. He actually had to take a deep breath before responding. This was good practice for him, if anything. ”No problem, boss,” he replied, raising a hand to jokingly salute Arcturus. ”Er… how are we supposed to do that?” The easiest way would be for Matthew to raise his hand and own up to it. But that was definitely not the preferable option. Maybe if it was a different prefect, but not Arcturus. The bloke would probably try to dock him points or some shit. So Matthew would just continue to play along as long as he could. Maybe along the way they’d come across someone else committing another crime, and Arcturus would forget all about the fireworks. Maybe.
