Live the Magic
We are only as strong as we are united

"On this day, the thirteenth of June of the year two thousand and thirty four, in the spirit of honesty, safety and the equality of all mankind, the magical population and the non-magical population will no longer remain hidden from one another, but will be unified as one. Rather than withholding from one another, we today take a step toward a better future, as the union of two such extraordinary cultures and resources promises a betterment in quality of life for all. This statute applies to every living being that is capable of thinking and reasoning for itself. Either Discrimination or Deceptiveness in respect to the statute are both considered the highest form of noncompliance in all countries involved, and are punishable as treason. Every world leader, both magical and non-magical, have signed this statute in agreement that Transparency between the respective communities of the world is the best path toward knowledge and peace."

Jane Baumann (First Name Open)
Age: 11
Gender: Female
Year: First
House: Open
Faceclaim: Open
History: Much of Jane’s history is open. She grew up the sixth of six children to a jewish muggle family living in rural Britain and was raised by two loving parents, a doting mother and a tough-as-nails father. Her father was very sporty and old-fashioned, while her mother was a notorious gossiper with a tendency to embarrass her children with her over-bearing nature as well as her loud mouth. Most of her siblings, barring Tabs, were quite a rowdy bunch and more often than not took more after their father than their mother. They, including Jane, often teased Tabs and they probably would have playfully teased Jane as well. Tabs was her only magical sibling and her magical powers did not bloom until she was upset with him at the age of five or six when she accidentally sent him flying across a plain breaking his arm. She is now a first year at Hogwarts and her older muggle sibling is also attending. How she feels about all of this is up to you and how she handles it is up to you.

Personality: Jane is still very young and has a lot of growing up to do. She takes after her father in the athletics department and does indeed love sports quite a bit. She’s loud, boisterous and exceedingly, unfathomably stubborn. She also has a tendency to tease other people. Sure she does it jokingly, but it isn’t too far-fetched that she could go too far. Lord knows she has embarrassed Tabs more than once in the past. Speaking of Tabs, she does look up to her older brother quite a bit, though she probably isn’t the type to show that through love and affection, but rather playful teasing. Tabs doesn’t quite understand that she looks up to him and more often than not is embarrassed by her. After all, having a little sister who is stronger than you, sportier than you and gets along better with your manly father than you is somewhat embarrassing. Especially when said little sister is also magical and can easily beat you in arm wrestling. At the end of the day, she is a light-hearted, albeit stubborn girl with a love for pranks, has immense pride (especially when it comes to sports and her physical prowess) and a deep, unconditional love for her family. Even if they sometimes get on her nerves. Okay, a lot of the time.

Misc.: Her magical prowess could go in a number of different ways such as her not being very good at magic and perhaps needing help. Maybe being a bit jealous of how easy it comes for Tabs. Perhaps she has a prodigious talent for magic that makes Tabs feel even more insecure, but she tries so hard because she wants his approval or something? He’s the only magical person she knew before attending Hogwarts and is her older brother after all. On the other hand, her feelings towards magic can be very conflicted. Her father, whom she was very close to due to their love for sports, was always wary of magic and, being incredibly old-fashioned, did not particularly like it as a means of getting things done often looking at it as lazy as to him it seemingly took no effort. Their father did not take part much in the magical aspect of his children’s lives if he could help it. Maybe her magic drew them apart a bit? On the other hand, her first use of magic ended up severely hurting her brother Tabs a great deal, going as far as to put him in a cast. Perhaps she’s afraid that she will hurt others with her magic and fears it a bit?

I’m totally up for this character to go a lot of different ways from boisterous first year with a knack for magic and a fire in her eyes to a young cautious first year terrified she will hurt someone with her magic like she did her brother years ago. If you have any ideas, you can PM me, catch me in the C-box or reply here.

John/Jane Baumann (hence referred to as J.J. for convenience, first name is open)
Age: 14-17 years old
Gender: Open
Year: 4th-7th
Faceclaim: Open
History: J.J.’s history is even more open than their younger sisters. She was raised in rural Britain, is Jewish, is a muggle and was raised by a doting mother and a tough-as-nails, old-fashioned father, both of whom deeply loved their children. J.J., much like her other siblings, often teased Tabs quite a bit and he is very easily embarrassed and flustered by J.J. like he is with his other siblings. J.J. was not born necessarily in rural Britain, but did move there at a young age after Tabs was born due to Tabs’ magical powers. J.J. was chosen as one of the muggles that would be going to Hogwarts.

Misc.: This character is basically entirely open. Her opinion on the Wizarding World can go in many different ways. Perhaps s/he’s scared of it. Maybe J.J.’s jealous of her/his magical siblings. S/He could be angry with it given s/he had to grow up in rural Britain because her/his siblings were magical. Everything from personality to the large part of their history is entirely flexible. If you wish to talk about the character you can often find me in the c-box, but you can also PM me or reply below.

P.S. It would be incredibly amiss of me not to mention that their mother is an incredibly embarrassing mother with no filter on her loud, gossiping mouth. And she just found out that Howlers exist. She has beens ending them as if they are normal letters. >:D

Tabs had loved always loved Potions. Right from the moment he had read the introduction chapter in his school book right before his first year. He loved the smell of the cauldron shop in Diagon Alley. He loved the cool air of the Potions classroom located in the dungeons. Everything about Potions was relaxing to the young boy and he was rarely nervous or klutzy in Potions. The only issue was when he had to work with other people. Often he found himself doing the work or, worse, he’d be paired with someone who’d spend the whole class making fun of him. Calling him Tabby and what not.

This was one of the days the Potions Master had decided to torture him with a partner. He sat nervously and bit his lower lip as his wide eyes looked around the room. the teacher listed off pairings for today. Tabs didn’t know if he was happy about that or not. At the very least he did not have to go through the awkwardness of getting someone to be his Potions partner. This time he was paired with a fellow second year Ravenclaw. He knew the girl. Marielle Prince. He sighed in relief. He wasn’t particularly close with the girl, but she was at the very least an acquaintance of his. She had never made fun of him and for the most part been kind to him. In fact, if Tabs wasn’t such a nervous nelly they probably would have become very good friends in their first year. Alas, Tabs was far too shy to talk with a pretty girl and more often than not avoided most social situations altogether.

Tabs turned to his new Potions partner and mustered up a small, nervous smile. “H-hello. Nice to see you again.” Tabs managed and immediately felt like hiding his head inside his cauldron.Nice to see you again? he thought to himself mentally face-palming. They were in the same house! And the same year! Heck ,this wasn’t even there first class together that very day. Tabs’ Potions book was already turned to the page of Sleeping Drought which they were supposed to make. “So, um, uh . . . you ever try making Sleeping Drought before?” the boy inquired stammering a bit. He had made the Potion before. It wasn’t too difficult, but then again he found none of his classes to be difficult. Top marks all around. If only he was as skilled at talking to people as he was at brewing Potions. He looked at the girl sitting next to him, remembering the previous year. She hadn’t been one to make fun of him during the Giant Squid incident. which he certainly appreciated. She also been taller than him the previous year. Though that wasn’t saying much considering her was the shortest person in the entire year. Now, after his summer growth spurt, he was one of the tallest in his year. Indeed the boy had not grown into his newfound height and appeared rather awkward and lanky at five foot ten.

Tabs is a quiet, shy, nervous, hapless bashful and more often than not klutzy second year Ravenclaw with a secret interest in music, puns and flying (even if he is absolute shit at the latter). The fifth child of six, Tabs was raised by a doting mother and a tough-as-nails father. He grew up to be a socially awkward goody-two-shoes who just so happens to have a propensity for blushing when he is embarrassed and being flustered rather easily. He has a bit of an inferiority complex - particularly when it comes to his siblings and especially when it comes to his little sister. When your baby sister is capable of kicking your ass in a fight and is physically stronger than you it isn’t something that gives you a lot of confidence. The teasing he got because of his doting mother wasn’t exactly something that helped much either. Now with the Statute, his mother is learning more about magic. Which is incredibly unfortunate for him because she’s doting, embarrassing and gossiping and she always sends embarrassing Howlers that probably should not be Howlers as they usually are no different from a regular letter except they’re Howlers.
Tabs is much more bookish than he is sporty and spends most of his time in the library. He isn’t one of the smartest kids his age by sitting around doing nothing after all. However, though tabs wouldn’t be quick to admit it, he has an insatiable curiosity that goes beyond just reading books and learning spells. He didn’t accidentally end up in the Forbidden Forest. He was there because he couldn’t help himself. First year when he fell into the lake on the boat ride to Hogwarts, it certainly wasn’t because he was sitting calmly in the boat being a good little boy. It was because he was enraptured by both the Castle and the shadow he had seen in the water and ended up getting a little too close. If it comes down to them, Tabs insatiable curiosity will almost always win out against his better judgement and/or his klutzy, hapless side.

FRIENDS: Given he is a very quiet and socially awkward boy, Tabs does not make friends easily. However, though he doesn’t know it yet, tabs has a bit of a protective streak. Perhaps even a tad overprotective. Especially when it comes to his little sister.

ENEMIES: Tabs has quiet a few of these. Given how quiet, awkward and hapless he is, Tabs was always easy pickings for bullies. He might be over-protective of those he cares for, but Tabs is far from protective of himself. If you ever did something to someone he cared about, Tabs would lose his cool really quick and you’d see a side of him you’d never see otherwise. It’s a side even Tabs doesn’t know about. However, he would likely not stand up for himself. It would take quite a bit to push him to that. He has suffered through several bullies at Hogwarts and his mother’s Howlers haven’t helped. Now half the damn school is calling him Tabby. Maybe if he weren’t so socially awkward and they knew his name before they’d call him by his actual name.

LOVERS: tabs is even more romantically awkward than he is socially awkward. He has never so much as kissed a girl and given his shyness probably wouldn’t make the first move. Underneath his shy awkwardness, Tabs is an an incredibly sweet guy who will go to great lengths for those he cares for. However, he is so inept and clumsy in the field of love. More likely to wallow in crushes than to ever make a real move.

OTHERS:I’m up for plenty of other ideas. Also - I will be putting up a wanted ad for both his little sister and his big muggle sibling if you are at all interested.

Tabs stands at five foot ten, something he is incredibly proud of given that he just hit his growth spurt and was previously the shortest person in his year. Including the girls. He has short brown hair and a pair of expressive hazel eyes. He appears to be a bit lanky and awkward, still having not truly settled into his newfound height. He is very light-skinned and despite his youth, clumsiness and growth spurt, Tabs is actually somewhat lean and athletic for a boy his age being extremely lithe and skinny. He normally sports dress clothes - often a plain white button up shirt and slacks. However, he does have a closet of muggle clothes that he occasionally wears consisting mostly of t-shirts and jeans.

Personality

Tabs has always been the good kid. The one who did whatever his parents said, never spoke out of turned and followed the rules. Fro the most part, he still is and hasn’t really come out of his shell much. He was raised by a doting mother with a big mouth who loved to gossip and a tough-as-nails father who wanted his son to be able to do all the things he was able to do. On top of this, Tabs was the fifth of six children growing up in rural Britain. Despite his father forcing him into sports at a young age, Tabs was always more bookish than sporty. While he had a great metabolism and was an incredibly fast runner, Tabs was more often than not hapless, clumsy and all-around a klutz. This, and growing up in a predominantly male household of man’s mans, caused Tabs to become somewhat shy, nervous and quiet (also in no small part to his mother’s doting and babying). However, beneath the bashful boy’s quiet exterior, is a very sweet lad with a heart of gold and an insatiable curiosity than can often get the best of him. It has even been known to outweigh his shyness as well as goody-two-shoes conscious. His curiosity largely developed from figuring out his magical powers. Indeed, the muggleborn boy is easily entranced and fascinated by magic.
Tabenner is not the most social guy. Not necessarily by choice either. He doesn’t quite know how to go about socializing and is particularly socially awkward. He bumbles, gets klutzy and is very easily embarrassed. His shyness and nervousness don’t help much. Tabs is just, if not more so, awkward when it comes to girls. He tends to crush on girls and not really approach them, being far too nervous and fearing rejection. However, he is also a very sweet and caring guy with a surprising protective streak that he doesn’t even know he has yet because he’s never had to protect anybody before. he was always the one being teased and left out of things. Despite the jealousy he has for his siblings, especially his younger sister, he is incredibly loyal, caring and protective of his family, especially his little sister. As someone who is social awkward and has a tendency to babble and stutter when nervous (which is almost always), Tabs tends to not do much talking and tends to be much more contemplative. despite his smarts, he is a complete fool when it comes to the emotions of other people and is surprisingly atrocious at reading them nor does he usually respond in a manner that would please the other person. Ultimately, Tabs is a quiet, sweet, socially awkward and bookish second year with a surprising amount of stress on his shoulders for someone his age and a love of Potions, books and music.

History

Tabs was born the fifth of six children to two jewish muggles named Abigail and David Baumann in a small rural town in Britain. His mother was doting, his father was tough, his sisters were smarter than and his brothers were more manly. Tabs was often mocked by them for being a goody-two-shoes as well as a bit of a mama’s boy. he was the baby boy of the group, even if he did have a little sister. His little sister in particular was disparaging for him. She was a year younger than him, but was taller than him, better at sports than him and was even physically stronger than him. Nothing was worse than your own little sister being capable of beating you up. His family was a bit of a mess and they fought often, but at the end of the day they loved each other and were extremely close. After all, everyone in the family knew there was something off about Tabs. He could do things . . . unnatural things. It was a bit scary and unsettling, but once they were visited by people of the magical community, the family supported him. He was six at the time and his mother began to dote on her baby boy even more. She called him Tabby, something he hated and his siblings would often make fun of him for it. She supported all of his hobby’s, however. Whether it be his miniatures he loved to paint or music which he greatly enjoyed - even if he was too shy to ever play for anybody. His father on the other hand never really seemed to acclimate as well to the news of a whole other secret world - a magical one at that. He found it unsettling and didn’t particularly like it when Tabs’ magic would come to. Especially if it had something to do with chores which was how his magic often showed itself in his early days. Sometimes his chores would just do themselves. His father viewed this as cheating, saying it was unfair that his siblings had to spend hours doing their chores. He was an old-fashioned guy and he wanted to instill that into his son. He didn’t know about all this magic stuff, but he wanted his son to grow up the way he did.
For the longest time, Tabs’ magical abilities were the one thing he felt made him special - particularly among his siblings. It was even something some of his siblings seemed quite jealous of at times. No doubt that was one of the reasons for the teasing. Among many others. It didn’t help that he was incredibly bashful and would blush like a school girl at almost anything. That is why one of the most disparaging things to ever happen to him was when he was nine years old. His little sister and he were out if the fields in their hometown as they often were after school when he caused a wilting flower to bloom. His sister watched in awe with a bit of sadness and she could not help but feel jealous. Rather than tease him, however, she began to ask him why she couldn’t do that sort of stuff. why he got to. He told her it was because she wasn’t special like him. That didn’t exactly soothe her and she got quite upset. She yelled at him that she wanted to be special too, that she was special. In fact, she yelled so loud that Tabs had to sport a cast on his left arm for a whole month because her yell sent him flying back thirty feet like a rag doll. just like that they had not just a wizard, but also a witch in the family. The one thing that made him special was gone. Everyone had something but him now.
By the time Tabs had gotten to the Hogwarts Castle, he had already read his first year books in their entirety. However, he would quickly find that just because he was a wizard, had a 10 1/3 inch Cherry wand teamed with Dragon Heartstring and had read his books, did not mean he was ready for Hogwarts even if his mind did prove to be quite brilliant for his age. On the boat ride to the Castle, Tabs became so entranced by what seemed to be a shadow in the lake, that he ended up overboard with the Giant Squid - something he would be teased about many times throughout the year and it was not something anyone was likely to forget any time soon. He attended his sorting, sopping wet with a warm towel around in - still sporting his wet clothes. The hapless lad was sorted into Ravenclaw and they cheered, but to Tabenner it sounded more obligatory than anything else. They had cheered for everyone else. But for him it wasn’t as wild and he could hear snickering as he approached the hat in his wet clothes. There were also jeers among the cheers that he had noticed. His profuse blushing did not help his situation either.
A quite lad, he did not make many friends in his first year at Hogwarts. He was a small boy, not even breaking five foot and was the shortest person in his year - including the girls. Something he was acutely aware of and embarrassed by. Tabs spent most of his time studying, rereading his books and in the library taking out new books. He found he had a knack for potions - which wasn’t entirely surprising to him. He had always had a knack at cooking - something his brothers and sisters never seemed to stop teasing him about. He knew it was all in good fun, but it did wound him at times. Despite this, he still loved Potions a great deal. he wasn’t particularly poor at any class and was actually getting top marks. However, despite his usual goody-two-shoes behavior, Tabs found something out about himself that year. Something he had never known and never would have known if he hadn’t been separated from hi overbearing father, successful siblings and doting mother. He was thrill-seeker. Or rather, better put, he had an insatiable curiosity that could not be quenched. More than once the boy had found himself wandering where he ought not to be, unable to contain his curiosity and he was even once caught in the Forbidden Forest. He had never truly been in trouble before, but Tabs had never been both so terrified and exhilarated in his entire life. That was - until he rode a broom. Though he still fears broom riding and his first real attempt beyond just hovering got him in the Hospital Wing for almost an entire day, he secretly did love the feeling of the wind on his face and his adrenaline pumping. He would even occasionally go to see the Ravenclaw Quidditch games. He had never liked any of the muggle sports his father made him play growing up, but there was something about Quidditch that really did catch his eye. He was far too nervous to try anything flying or Quidditch related outside of Flying class though and he was not as natural at flying as he was at other magical things. His clumsiness definitely showed.
The Summer of his first year, Tabs found a new determination beneath his nervousness and managed to get a part-time job working at an ice cream shop in Diagon Alley. It was just enough money that after taking into account floo powder funds, tabs was making a few sickles a week. By the end of the Summer, he was finally able to buy a broom though. Sure, it was a crappy old used one that out of date thirty years ago - but it was a broom. He hid it, but eventually his little sister found it. Surprisingly to him, she did not tell their mother about it saying that she’d probably kill him so that the broom wouldn’t. Not only did he have a broom, but the boy had hit a surprisingly growth spurt over the Summer. He wouldn’t be the smallest person in his year anymore! That year was also the year that Statute was passed and rather than the expected two letters - three letters from Hogwarts showed up that Summer. One of his muggle siblings had been chosen to attend Hogwarts. His heart sank. His siblings were better than him at anything. It wasn’t enough that his little sister - who could easily beat him at arm wrestling and had once held him down and given him birthday punches despite his struggling for thirty minutes straight without help - was going, but now one of his older siblings were going as well. He was always in their shadow and he hated it. Magic was supposed to be his thing. His one thing. And he couldn’t have it. So far this year he has remained as quite as he did the previous year, though he has been secretly training himself to ride a broom. Sure, he was absolute shit at it and his broom was even klutzier than he was, but he trying. Unfortunately, the year could not go without him being embarrassed. Since the Statute, muggles had been learning more and more about the wizarding world and his mother had begun to write him by owl. She had even purchased the same owl he had - an eagle owl - so they could be “matching”. To make it worse, she had begun to send him Howlers not realizing the context behind him. Inevitably at least once or twice a week he would get an embarrassing Howler from his mother that was no different from an ordinary letter someone else might have gotten - except it had his mother’s voice yelling through it for all to hear. By the end of the first week everyone in the school knew his mother called him Tabby and more than a few kids had taken to calling him it. Perhaps if they had even known his name prior to this, they would have called him by his name. Alas, he was antisocial and awkward and they did not. The whole thing was humiliating.
