Live the Magic
We are only as strong as we are united

THE INTERNATIONAL STATUTE OF TRANSPARENCY

"On this day, the thirteenth of June of the year two thousand and thirty four, in the spirit of honesty, safety and the equality of all mankind, the magical population and the non-magical population will no longer remain hidden from one another, but will be unified as one. Rather than withholding from one another, we today take a step toward a better future, as the union of two such extraordinary cultures and resources promises a betterment in quality of life for all. This statute applies to every living being that is capable of thinking and reasoning for itself. Either Discrimination or Deceptiveness in respect to the statute are both considered the highest form of noncompliance in all countries involved, and are punishable as treason. Every world leader, both magical and non-magical, have signed this statute in agreement that Transparency between the respective communities of the world is the best path toward knowledge and peace."

T
wo weeks spent with his family - in particular, his father and sister - had reminded Ross what was expected of him. Not just top grades at school, but eventually for him to work for his father's company (specialising in Quidditch equipment). And, for bonus points, a career as a successful Quidditch player as soon as he left school, like Mona. Only, the problem was that his flying lessons so far had proved fruitless. He could barely manage to fly his broom in a straight line, let alone think about zooming around at a hundred miles an hour with stuff being hurled towards him. And it made no sense - he'd been watching and taking an interest in Quidditch since he was three years old. He was from a family of talented players. So why couldn't he make a broom fly up into his hand and zoom around the pitch with the same ease his sisters could?

When he'd returned to Hogwarts after Christmas Ross had decided to take it upon himself to try harder, as his family would expect of him. Surely if he spent his free time studying the game and practicing his flying, he'd of course get as good as he knew he was capable of. And be on the Slytherin team by his third year. Determined as ever, after lunch he headed straight for the pitch to practice, ready to blow the whole school away with his incredible natural skill and ability. Only, when he arrived, the pitch was already occupied by a house team training. There was no way he could interrupt that, so Ross instead went to sit in the stands and watch them practice.

These older students were experts - you had to be good to get onto your house team, so he needed to aspire to be exactly like them. He watched intently, studying each student in each position, carefully following their every move. Of course he knew the game like the back of his hand - the basic idea, the rules, tactics, positions - he just needed to understand how it all worked in practice, and what he needed to do to be a good player. He was concentrating so hard he barely noticed the sound of footsteps approaching, or even worried about the fact he might have to have an actual conversation with someone. He kept his eyes trained on the pitch.

SNAP OUT OF IT

about

Ross Navarro is a first year Slytherin who likes reading books and not talking to people most of the time. He's quiet - shy - but very intelligent and observant. He tends just to listen to people around him, rather than give his own input. He's logical and cynical, and a big thinker. He has a lot of opinions that he tends not to share, but when he does sometimes he can come across as a little judgemental - mainly because of his pureblood supremacist, traditionalist father, who talks a lot.

friends

Any friends of Ross will need to be patient and pretty damn nice - he's not always easy to put up with, but if you do earn his trust, then he opens up a lot, and is very sweet.

enemies

He wouldn't go out of his way to make someone dislike him, but if someone does something to annoy or offend him, Ross won't hide it, and will openly despise that person. He's not the most likeable, and as such won't be the most liked person.

romance

Naaaaaaaaaah. (come back to me when he's like thirty)

R
oss' family was not really the type to celebrate holidays - or celebrate at all, he supposed. But the one holiday tradition they did always uphold was spending the Christmas holidays at his grandparents' manor in Italy. He wouldn't ordinarily look forward to spending an extended amount of time in close proximity to his father and sister Mona (Quidditch player slash snob), but he adored his grandparents and he'd see his oldest sister Abbie (the tolerable one) for the first time in months. So it would be totally worth putting up with the antagonistic father and sister for the beautiful little village and his grandmother's cooking. And he'd actually been looking forward to the holiday for quite a while now. Since he'd spent every Christmas since he was born there, the annual custom was just the norm.

It was snowing very lightly outside his dorm window when he woke up that morning. Momentarily, he felt sad he'd be missing the seasonal Scottish weather, and the Hogwarts Christmas celebrations he'd heard were the best. But then he remembered where he was going anyway - chances, were, it would snow at some point at his grandparents'. Plus, surely even the Hogwarts cookies couldn't be as good as Nonna's. Smiling widely, Ross neatly packed the last couple of shirts into his suitcase and put on the usual duffle coat, ready to go and get the train.

He was one of the first students to climb onto the carriages, and subsequently one of the first to board the train. He chose the first empty carriage he came across and practically collapsed into the seat by the window. Facing the engine, of course, because going backwards made him feel sick. He was exhausted after the long term at school. Classes were more difficult than he'd expected. Not to mention, he'd spent all his spare time pouring over school books trying to make sure he stayed at the top of the class. But now he could relax. Sleep. And read books that weren't textbooks.

Staring out of the window, he saw a stream of students approaching the platform, and sighed as he realised that surely his cabin would soon be occupied by other students. How unfortunate that he couldn't have the small quiet room to himself, and read a book and stuff his face full of sweets without being disturbed. What if - God forbid - he had to share his sweets? Crossing his fingers he'd be lucky and someone allergic to sweets or something would sit down, he opened his book about a pixie called Gary and ignored the noise of students outside the cabin.

ROSS.

ross navarro is a first year slytherin, who should really be in ravenclaw. he's clever and calculating and logical, but also extremely introverted and shy. he tends to not talk to anyone unless they talk to him, and even then he tends to keep it pretty concise. he's never had a lot of friends in his town, and so far he is finding it a little difficult to adapt to a place as busy and exciting as hogwarts.

friends.

it's not that ross is a bad person, he just won't make a huge effort to befriend someone. he is shy and awkward and doesn't quite know how to go about making friends. but he would not be against friends, if they could deal with him not talking much and generally not seeming too interested.

not friends.

ross is not particularly likeable. therefore he is likely to have various people who don't like him. he isn't the type to have arch enemies, since he's pretty quiet, but he will secretly hate you. it is not difficult to annoy ross, but it is difficult to annoy him to the point that he will tell you to your face. he definitely holds a grudge

love.

as an eleven year old, ross is not interested in romance. he thinks girls have cooties and he would rather read books.

R
oss disliked parties. No, he despised parties. On occasions where his father would host parties at home, Ross would usually retreat to his room and not come out all evening. Never in his life had he voluntarily attended a party. And he'd never much liked Halloween, either - it didn't feel like a real holiday. But Hogwarts had been a first time for a lot of things, and after encouragement from his roommate, and having come to the realisation that at the party there would be a bonfire (Ross was a big fan of bonfires) and smores, Ross had decided to suck it up and attend. There was no point going back to his dorm, anyway: everyone would be at the party, and there was no way he'd be able to sleep with the amount of noise the celebration would cause.

Admittedly, he hadn't put too much time or effort into his costume - since he didn't really want to go, and hadn't planned on going until this morning. After the feast in the early evening, he'd returned to his dormitory and half heartedly placed some devil horns on his head. They weren't even good devil horns - he'd made them out of cardboard and scribbled on them in red crayon when he was bored in History of Magic earlier in the day. Then he put on a white shirt and his school trousers, and his blue duffle coat. It was October and they were in Scotland, so it was bound to be freezing. Ross planned on being prepared. It may not be the most impressive costume there - in fact, it was likely to be one of the worst, since Ross had quickly realised that Hogwarts students were both weird and creative - but at least he was making the effort to show up to the stupid thing.

Going down the main stairs towards the grounds, Ross realised that he was, indeed, underdressed. As expected, the rest of the students seemed to have cared enough to wear good costumes. Nonetheless, Ross didn't run back to his dorm and hide under his bed as he perhaps would have liked to, but carried on, following the vast stream of students all going in the same direction. He got a little crushed by the masses, and almost lost his pathetic attempt at devil horns a couple of times, but managed to make it downstairs largely all in one piece.

When he saw the magnificent bonfire before him, he knew he'd made the right decision in showing up. Although he was a little scared of fire, so he'd most likely admire it from a fair distance away. Not seeing anyone he knew or had talked to at Hogwarts yet, Ross stood alone a good few metres away from the bonfire, again getting a little crushed as older, taller students rushed past him. He watched with wide eyes as students greeted one another, and took note of the kind of costumes other students wore. Next year, he could manage to do better.
