Live the Magic
We are only as strong as we are united

"On this day, the thirteenth of June of the year two thousand and thirty four, in the spirit of honesty, safety and the equality of all mankind, the magical population and the non-magical population will no longer remain hidden from one another, but will be unified as one. Rather than withholding from one another, we today take a step toward a better future, as the union of two such extraordinary cultures and resources promises a betterment in quality of life for all. This statute applies to every living being that is capable of thinking and reasoning for itself. Either Discrimination or Deceptiveness in respect to the statute are both considered the highest form of noncompliance in all countries involved, and are punishable as treason. Every world leader, both magical and non-magical, have signed this statute in agreement that Transparency between the respective communities of the world is the best path toward knowledge and peace."

Rachel felt that, between the constant drama with her brother and the annoyingness that made up her Christmas Holiday, she was over-due for a little...'Vigilante Justice'. True she couldn't exactly get the fresh much and ooze to rain down on her targets, but she was planning on making due with a bit of magic. She chewed her lower lip thoughtfully and glanced down the corridor.

There hadn't been quite a prank like this since the famed 'Weasley Twins' dropped out of Hogwarts, and Rachel was eager to live up to it. Of course they'd been combating an evil woman and Rachel was just trying to ruin a single student's day. Or a gaggle of them if she got her way.

She smirked as she waved her wand and made a few more magical adjustments before bending down to inspect the trip wire. It was a little lax. She frowned as she made a few adjustments. Too loose it wouldn't go off. Too tight and it'd snap in her face and ruin her day.

She held her breath and delicately rewound the wire around its spring a little tighter. One wrong move, one little jump and it would go off. Right in her face. Boy what a diary entry that would make.

<br>So that kid.... Dorian? Duncan. Duncan told me to keep a diary to help with the memory loss. It really won't and I know it won't but its not a bad idea. Especially with what went down the first week of holiday last year. With Jack. So let's start with the basics.
My name is Rachel Aurora Winston. As of right now I am fourteen years old and my twin brother is Jack Phillipe Winston. I was born to Edwin and Elissa Winston (Ed and Elle), both pure-bloods. My grandfather is an asshole and my grandmother isn't much better (they are also pure-bloods, I think incest was involved at some point and that's kinda sick, but I digress.).
To make sure everything is remembered, I think I should start at the beginning? Yeah, the beginning is fine.
IT started when I was eleven. IT shouldn't have even happened to me. Just Jack. Damn, that doesn't make me feel much better to think about but....even thinking about IT makes my shoulder twinge and my muscles tense.
My grandfather is an asshole. IT was his doing. Like I said I should never have been apart of IT. I remember that day like I remember a dream. Its misty and foggy with a vauge sense of dread and only a few details are crystal clear. Our birthday. Our letters. Grandfather was so proud. We went to Diagon Alley. Our first wand. My first wand. Home. Father took Mother out to dinner. Grandfather dragged Jack into the ballroom with some man. I remember the man. Long dark hair the looked like it hadn't been washed in months. Beady eyes that darted over the antiques. A bowler hat and a patchy suit. He was thin like he didn't eat enough and his teeth were yellowed behind his permanent sneer. And Grandfather dragged Jack away with this man.
Grandmother is permanently trying to match-make. Turn me into the perfect bride. I was hiding. That's when I heard the yelling. Grandfather was angry. So I peered into the ballroom. Grandfather saw me. I should have ran.
No. I proved running would only make it worse.
IT hurt. But I am a Winston. I was supposed to fight IT. Supposed to have a clear mind. A strong mind. I failed. Jack failed too. That made Grandfather angry. We have to fight IT.
IT always happens every time we go home now. I ran one time and Jack got IT doubled. He lost his memory for a few months and Father found out about IT. That's why....
I really wish I could forget that memory.

Mid December 2035

"THAT MOTHER FUCKER!" Rachel Winston was not happy. Rachel Winston was not happy because her beloved brother was not happy. And why was dear, sweet Jack not happy? Because that skank Marcus Barrow was...well, a skank. True, the boy was well within his rights to snog whoever the hell he wanted, Rachel couldn't care less. When her brother, who she would have bet money on the fact the he'd been asexual, confessed to her he'd been having feelings for his new friend, that was when she got involved. Because nobody played with Jack Winston's feelings.

Furious, she shoved a suit of armor over. The pieces hit the ground with a satisfying 'KLANG' before the magic imbued in them started putting itself back together. Rachel stalked by with out a second glance or listening to the angry shout the newly-put-back-together suit gave off.

"Where are you?! You-you-you!!!!!" She wasn't even making sense, her head filled with too much anger to form a coherent sentence. Her wand was drawn from her pocket as she continued to stalk the halls. She gave an angry flick and a vase was smashed to the ground.

Rachel had been lounging on a couch in the common room, her eyes glued on her favorite Shakespeare play. She'd been enjoying reading Puck's mischief and was eager to read more, until the portrait hole swung open to the quiet room. Jack trudged in and Rachel gave him a grin.

She soon froze when she saw his face. He looked miserable and so damn hurt. He looked ready to cry. She sat up straighter and he almost threw himself into the empty space beside her. She draped her arms around him and he nestled his face into her hair. Quietly she held him and she could feel him shaking.

"I saw him kissing another girl. He said he likes me... and that was only just a kiss...but..." Rachel could hear the absolute heartbreak in his voice. "Oh... Rachel." He whimpered. "What am I to do?"

Jack was strong. Jack was her rock. The family's rock. He.... He....

"AARRGH!" Rachel let out a frustrated scream that had a pair of nervous first years fleeing in terror. She felt bad for a second, but that only made her angrier. She sent a kick at a wall, then turned to sink against it.

@Duncan Connery

It was almost the end of the day. Time for Rachel to find a place all to herself and read. The library was out, considering that's where most students gathered for homework. But Rachel had a secret place. A place that was quiet and out of the way and just for her. She skipped down the corridor with a grin. Her messenger bag bounced heavily against her hip. She was getting closer, the notched grooves in the wall she had carved there when she was eleven told her so.

And there it was. Her smile broke her face and she sped up. She turned the handle on the door and let herself inside. The evening sun streamed in through the large windows. Empty desks littered the room, long abandoned and forgotten and a thin layer of dust rose up through the air. Rachel smiled and set her bag atop a desk before she moved to light up some of the candles around the room. Once the room was more illuminated she turned back to her bag.

Now for more of that silly muggle story she had been reading. She reached into her bag and pulled out...her textbooks? She frowned. That's weird. She reached in again and pulled out.......papers?

Okay, don't panic. She dumped her bag out onto the floor. She heard the smash of ink bottles and saw more parchment float to the floor, but couldn't see her book. She shook her head. "Okay Rachel." She muttered. "Calm down. Just think of where you last...put... it." She didn't remember. Her breath elevated slightly.

"No. Its fine... I'll just read....."What was she going to read? Her breath hitched. "Nooo no. Not now!" She bent her head trying desperately to remember and retrace the days steps. The more her panic escalated, the less she could recall. She screamed, the pain slowly returning to her and turning her back into the frightened eleven year old. Tears welled and slid from her eyes. "NO!"

Late November, 2035

Rachel was mildly surprised. Mildly. Today had been a relatively slow day. No one was picking on anyone, people seemed nicer, hell she'd had time to actually go to class. (her brother and Celia would die of shock.) Perhaps her latest prank had gone a mite far? The raven haired girl frowned and shrugged as she made her way to the gardens. Oh well Lucy Perrin had been an absolute bitch and had deserved what she had gotten.

Picking on kids, of all the rotten....

Rachel made her way through the gardens, inhaling deeply. She enjoyed it even in this early winter. The trees in the garden protected some of the more wintery flowers and berries. It reminded her of the outside gardens back home, she bent to observe a plant still stubbornly poking up through the snow. Life, it always finds a way, huh?

She stiffened. Someone was crying. No.... someone was mocking? And crying? She tilted her head going completely still and listening. Three voices. One was protesting....something and the other two were laughing. Rachel followed the voices and peered around a shrub. Her blood boiled. Lucy. And one of her hangers-on. Both were laughing as a small girl was huddled over a flower. The poor kid looked ready to cry.

Rachel grit her teeth and took a deep breath. "Perrin!" She called out as she strolled out from her place behind the shrub. "Good to see you out of the hospital wing. Healer did a good job restoring most of your hair!" There was a bit of an edge to her voice as the bully turned to face her. "I see there is still a bit of a bald patch though. Pity, throws the whole thing off. I could.... help if you wanted."

Lucy Perrin glared at her and stalked by, her lackey hot on her heels. Rachel kept a cheery grin as they brushed by her. Yeah, I'll get you later. Bitch. She took another deep breath and her smile faded. She took a glance and a step toward the smaller girl. "Hey now. Its okay. They're gone."
