Live the Magic
We are only as strong as we are united

"On this day, the thirteenth of June of the year two thousand and thirty four, in the spirit of honesty, safety and the equality of all mankind, the magical population and the non-magical population will no longer remain hidden from one another, but will be unified as one. Rather than withholding from one another, we today take a step toward a better future, as the union of two such extraordinary cultures and resources promises a betterment in quality of life for all. This statute applies to every living being that is capable of thinking and reasoning for itself. Either Discrimination or Deceptiveness in respect to the statute are both considered the highest form of noncompliance in all countries involved, and are punishable as treason. Every world leader, both magical and non-magical, have signed this statute in agreement that Transparency between the respective communities of the world is the best path toward knowledge and peace."

ELOISE ANTOINETTE MOREAU
I am more than an afterthought

Hey there. I'm Eloise, call me Eloise. Not Ellie or El. Eloise. Anyways, I'm eleven years old, blonde haired and blue eyed and as magical as a first year student witch can be. I don't talk much, but when I do, I usually have something important to say. I don't appreciate it when people bully others or try to conceal their own fears, emotions, or lack of confidence with blustering words. I can see straight through it, trust me. My parents were never around much, so I know how to take care of myself. I do not appreciate comments about my family-- I love my parents and they love me, end of the story. I'm muggleborn and muggle-raised, so don't go spouting any of your false prejudices around me. If you get a laugh out of me sometime, it'll either be just a slight ghost of a chuckle of a full out burst of giggles, in which case you have been gifted with a rare sight.

The Statute is a pretty interesting thing that brought magic into my life and has opened up a whole new world for me, so saying I don't mind it could be a bit of an understatement. We're all entitled to our own opinions, and I don't mind listening to yours even if they conflict with my own. I always end up knowing how you all feel about things, anyways. Nobody ever pays much attention to me unless they're in need and it's always been that way. I won't let you use me, though, so don't even try-- I expect you to be there when I get into a mess, too. I just happen to prefer not being in the spotlight most of the time. Oh, I'm plenty assertive when I need to be, but it can be like I haven't got a voice (metaphorically, too) unless you prod me for ages or it's required to speak. I'm not really shy about it, I just think it's unnecessary. But I still want to make my own distinct footprint in the world. And just a by the way, if you give me chocolate, I may talk to you more than usual. But only maybe.

Friends are always welcomed. I like to be around a lot of people, though, so if you're the kind of person who prefers a quiet room with just us two, you may be out of luck. I like down to earth conversations and I don't mind being your pillar if you're in a tough situation, though. I like to consider myself good at listening to other peoples' problems, especially because I understand how they feel most of the time. I won't really let anyone in, though, and don't even try to change my thinking process and replace it with your own through sweet talk or flattery. Confidence is a nice trait for my friends to have, so they aren't constantly anxious or afraid, hereby spreading those feelings to me. Negativity is also unappreciated, but an excess of optimism can quickly become dreary. Could we all just stay calm for a little while? Even if I don't like you, I won't be so rude as to tell you outright unless you ask. And there will surely be a reason, even if you don't like it.

Enemies are more uncommon than friends, since I tend to get along with the majority of people. Most don't mind a quiet person who's fairly intelligent but not really a smart aleck. However, I can't abide all this bashing and negativity that some people have towards muggles and muggleborns in general. It's not quite even a personal thing, just discrimination is never really an attractive or proper pastime for someone to have. I won't just spill all my secrets out on the table, so if you're a little nosy kid at heart who wants to delve into my soul and analyze how my brain works, you're pretty much out of luck. I can get pretty curt with anyone who wants to mess around with me or my friends, although I'm not as protective as other Gryffindors seem to be. I'll hang around in the shadows most of the time and watch the show, so if you like to nitpick at people who you think are "useless" or "shy" or "frightened" you can try it on me. But, you'll want to watch your back and you'd better have something under that arrogance or I will rip you apart and reveal your little insecurities inside. I can sympathize with you, though, if you give me a chance, because everyone has flaws... and I understand your emotions, too.

Lovers are not really something that I've considered at all. First of all, I'm eleven; you'd have to be sick to consider some sort of physical relationship that involved me. I've had a few crushes over the years, none of which lasted any meaningful amount of time. Mostly, it's just been a part of growing up and figuring out who exactly I am and what kind of people I take a liking to. Laid-back and easygoing folk are nice most of the time, and perhaps surprisingly enough, I don't mind chatterboxes or gossips, as long as they're not being harmful in any way. It helps to drown out all of the emotions constantly floating around in the atmosphere-- like white noise. I'm not really fond of drama queens or debby downers, since they're always looking at things in a way that just makes life difficult for those around them. And, I see right through it, so rather than making me excited, angry, or worried, I just feel a bit irritated.

Appearance

Eloise generally has a rather fair skin tone, although after spending the customary month in South-Western France with her mother’s family over the summer, it is often more tanned during the beginning of the school year. She has blonde hair that ranges from cornflower silk in color to a more dirty blonde, once again depending on the amount of light it has been in contact with recently. Naturally, though, Eloise has very pale skin and hair. Her eyes are of a light blue that occasionally can seem a bit turquoise or green-grey. Weighing in at approximately 64 pounds, she is around 4 feet, 8 inches tall. As for her body type, Eloise is rather fine-boned and combined with her light skin and soft features, this can easily give her a delicate appearance.

Her facial expressions do not very all that much and are most often rather somber or only slightly smiling. This can give people a first impression that Eloise is shy, when taken into account with her usually quiet demeanor. For physical habits and tics, she often presses her lips together when trying to conceal emotion, such as anger or even exuberance. In addition, Eloise will cross her ankles or put her knees next to each other with her lower legs splayed outwards when sitting down, since she has been told that it is not polite for her to cross her legs. Her hair is usually worn down (with either a natural side part to her right when just getting out of bed or being lazy, or a forced middle part) but can be seen plaited for special occasions. It sometimes will cover her eyes, adding to the appearance of her shyness.

As for clothing, she always wore fairly ordinary flared skirts that swept a few inches above her knees, paired with light colored tops (light blues, white, pinks, yellows) in styles to suit the seasons. For example, in winter she might wear a long sleeved T-shirt with another layer underneath in a complimenting shade, while in summer she might only wear a flowy, light blouse. For winter she would wear leggings underneath her skirts, as well. (Her old school had a dress code that required female students to wear skirts of a modest length, and it was more convenient for her to just have her whole wardrobe be of similar clothing, minus formal and sleep wear.)

Personality

Eloise most often tries to keep a neutral expression on her face, and she is determined to not allow others to know what she is feeling. At the same time, she is usually rather quiet and more of a listener rather than a talker when in large groups with other people. However, she is definitely not shy or reserved and does not mind reaching out to people-- she would just be more likely to do it through her actions and a few words rather than giving a whole speech or something. Eloise also adores trying new things, because she insists that they are never as bad or good as people think they are, and she does not want to be influenced by their opinions simply due to her abilities. She has relied heavily on herself and intends to do so for the rest of her life. It is true that she does want to be a pillar for her friends, though. Only, it is unlikely that she would feel confident enough to confide in them, choosing to handle everything on her own.

As an empath, she tries her best to support her friends and let them know that she is here to help them out in times of need. Nonetheless, she will be more than willing to push them into doing some things if she’s sure that they’re only nervous or unsure but actually want to do something, rather than being frightened or against it. When Eloise makes a decision, she is extremely stubborn about it and refuses to be influenced by any outside sources, including other peoples’ emotions or opinions. She has trouble acknowledging other peoples’ thoughts when deciding what action to take in most situations. Instead of making a gigantic fuss about it, though, she is more prone to simply saying “Nope.” or doing her best to ignore the person. She likes to be in large crowds or groups, because it gives her practice with controlling her own feelings and not relying on other peoples’. At the same time, though, she appreciates alone time because knowing everyone else’s emotions can sometimes be overwhelming, especially in the event of a crisis or such.

Some more information about Eloise includes...

She likes chocolate, rollercoasters, flying, horses, rivers, confidence, and the ocean.
She dislikes strawberries, enclosed spaces, liars, arrogance, and hunger.
Her fears include claustrophobia, being the center of attention, and cats (due to a severe allergy).
She can play the piano and speaks French as a first/second language, along with English. Her parents are both French but moved to England shortly after her birth. Growing up in England, she can still speak English very well but does speak French a bit better. Eloise is also accustomed to taking care of herself at home from a relatively young age, because her parents travel a lot for work. She has been to various countries in the world during the summer, since she accompanies her parents at that time, but they insist that she stays home during the school year for her studies.
She is somewhat awful at all sports and most physical activities but still enjoys them. As far as academics go, Eloise has never been anything besides average in talent or natural intelligence, but she is devoted to studying, enough so to be above average in most marks that she receives.
Although Eloise likes to be in large groups of people, she feels more uncomfortable in tightly knit clusters of people, such as being BFFs with two people. It heightens the amount of emotion she receives from a person, as well, since their feelings become more clear with less “white noise” coming from surrounding folk.

History

Eloise was born in Pau, a city in France close to the South-Western coast, to Monique and Paul Moreau. She only lived there for less than four months when her parents decided to move to England, to an area where there were several boarding schools and nurseries for younger children. This would be the most crucial point to their move, since the parents wanted Eloise to have a proper education despite their frequent absence. Because she was raised by other people from such a young age, she developed an estranged relationship with her parents. Although they were no negative feelings between them, it was almost as though they were not related and instead were only grandparents or an aunt and uncle who would visit infrequently to take Eloise on eye-opening trips around the world. She was taught both French and English from a young age by request of her parents, as they wanted her to retain her mother tongue. While visiting Eloise, her parents would also speak strictly only French, as well, to make sure she remembered it.

While growing up, she never felt isolated from the other children or misunderstood. Due to her gift of empathy, which she developed and could understand at a very young age (although without knowing it was related to magic), Eloise could make friends fairly easily. She was a sweet girl who was perhaps a bit too stubborn sometimes but was fairly steady in most regards. Over the years, Eloise occasionally switched schools due to either growing out of the old one or because her parents simply chose to. This was somewhat fine, as the girl is rather curious to see more of the world and likes to go new places and see new things. In addition, she never really had any close friends; either they just hung around her because she made them feel like they belonged, or she stuck with a big group. Over the summer, shortly before Eloise was about to turn ten, her parents came home temporarily from their work to register her and themselves by decree of The International Statute of Transparency.

It was at this point that things began to veer a little bit from the very-ordinary path that Eloise’s life had taken so far. First of all, her parents attempted to register herself as an ordinary human, a “Muggle” as the woman at the clerk’s desk had so put it. However, after she noticed Eloise’s immense shift in mood after an adult wizard stormed into the room and demanded an explanation for the Statute, waving his wand about and threatening the staff, the woman prodded her parents as to whether the girl was truly a Muggle. They were fairly curt with her, since they were a bit dubious about the wizarding world and magic in general. The answer was a resounding no, and so the worker was about to register Eloise as a Muggle when the strange wizard, livid at being ignored, decided it would be a bright idea to try and curse the witch behind the desk. He was promptly disabled by her shielding charm, the nature of which caused the spell to rebound back at the man. Immediately, he experienced tremendous pain and fell to the floor, writhing as he got a taste of his own medicine.

Unfortunately, the immense pain and fear the man was experiencing (at least in his own mind) was copied to Eloise by default. She curled into a ball on the ground and was promptly picked up by her mother, who was in a slight panic of her own by now. The witch, with a rather irritated look, explained to the girl’s parents that she was in fact a muggleborn witch, most likely with some power related to emotions or empathy. This became more clear in the future, but at that moment, she registered Eloise as a witch, and it was mostly official from then on. The next year, when she received her letter for Hogwarts while trying to take a bath in her room at the boarding school, Eloise herself actually began to acknowledge that she was, in fact, magical. She became intrigued to see what wizards were actually like, and more so, how they felt. Part of her was hoping that their feelings would somehow be less overwhelming or powerful than “regular humans” and that it would be easier to control her ability.

Eloise does not really know much about the Statute, but she is grateful for the opportunity it gave her to tell her parents about her ability without seeming completely mad. Being unfamiliar with the magical world, she is a bit dazzled by the prospects of spells, potions, and all sorts of creatures but hopes to immerse herself in it soon. She wants to learn how to not feel as much from everyone around her, since it is enormously important to Eloise that she is her own person and is able to make her own decisions. Throughout her life so far, she has been struggling in a sea of emotions and opinions that people have towards others and herself and is mostly unsure of what is her own. With her newfound magic and the path provided to her by her Hogwarts letter, Eloise hopes to carve out her own path in the mess of everyone else in this world. She won’t just be that girl in the crowd any more, the one who never says anything. Instead, she’ll have some kind of importance and independence.
