30 November, 2035 | @Sary
Mentioned: @Honora Jackos @Casey Mullane

It had been an exhausting month so far. What with schoolwork, Sary studying, and Mari hanging out with her other best friend, Casey, totally not to protect him from Honora, there had hardly been much time to hang out with Sary this year! Something had to change. Mari missed her best friend. Plus, Sary had been super stressed so far this year, constantly stressed. Mari needed to fix that. It was her duty as best friend.

See, Mari was a bit of a prankster, but none of the painful or disrespectful pranks, like when another student shaved their girlfriends eyebrow off as a "prank." She was not okay with pranks that embarrassed people or hurt their feelings, because Mari was a good person. At least, she thought she was. So she spent a little more time on her prank plans, thinking they had to be good, clean, and fun.

Now, what did she know about Sary? Sary was organized, meticulous, clean. She studied hard. She was super pretty, Mari thought. But, then again, Mari thought everyone was pretty. Sary was smart, quiet, and down-to-earth. Hm... But none of these helped Mari think of a prank... Oh! Sary always followed the same routine before bed. Change into her nighttime clothes at the end of the bed, brush her teeth and hair in the girls lavatory down the hall, return and sat on the side of the bed, before climbing under the covers. Sometimes, she would read a book too. But she always got into the bed from the right side. Always the right. It was her routine. And it gave Mari an idea.

Mari had headed up to bed a little earlier that night to put her plan into motion. She changed clothes quickly, shoved some extra clothes under her blankets to look like she was asleep in case Sary checked, closed the curtains around her four-poster bed, and hid behind the closed curtains on the left side of Sary's bed, hiding her mouth and giggling a little. She was laying down on the ground, half under Sary's bed. Once she was certain Sary had relaxed into her bed a little, Mari jumped up and onto the bed quickly, shouting "Boo!" and giggling.

It has been a long time since she and Marielle had had any interactions. The thing was, Saryana didn't know what she could do - she was constantly doing homework, purposely researching for additional information. As for Mari, she somehow made a thousand new friends in this new year at Hogwarts and constantly had to meet with them. With both of them busy, the chance of them being free at the same time would be rare. Of course, there was nights. But really, was a night time of talking just for doing it equal to any other type of bonding? And beside, Saryana did prefer that Mari didn't just fall asleep while she explained something - and the chances for that were high.

Still, after a few days of thinking, Saryana decided that it was, in fact, time for some socialising. She lost enough friends, Nick was enough for her. This time, though, it would be partly her fault. Because it was she who didn't pay attention to them drifting apart. And she would not take the blame for something she could have stopped. Something that most likely would turn out different had she just stepped in and did something. So, though days later than she should have, she decided that it was, in fact, time for the two of them to interact and talk again, as friends. After all... They had seven years at Hogwarts and having friends and people to know was important. Of course, not as important as doing well in class but close enough. And Marielle was her friend. Not to mention - who would make Saryana great dress robes to were if not Mari?

Determined on getting the job done, Saryana decided to come back a bit later than usual - it was possible that Mari could notice the strange time, comment on it and then - a conversation would begin. If that didn't work, then would Saryana start the conversation herself but, knowing her friend, she was positive that it would work. So, to fulfill her plan without wasting time, she went to the maths library and began to read a book on Arithmancy. To admit, she didn't really concentrate, so she just went over what she had read the days before. And even then, it was hardly a skim over. After about fifteen - twenty minutes, she decided that the time was enough to be abnormal while still be a normal enough time for her to sleep well. And not miss Marielle, of course. Gathering her books in her ruck sack, she greeted the librarian for the night and head back to the dorms.

However, she was completely disappointed when she discovered that Marielle was actually asleep. That never happened before, not at such a time... And today was not the day that it should be an exception. Bitting her bottom lip, she opened the curtains to see if she really was asleep. And it seemed that she was. Saryana found it a bit weird that her head was under the blanket as well but, knowing how absurd her friend slept at times, it was no surprise to the Ravenclaw. Shaking her head, she decided to go to bed. After brushing, getting dressed and everything in between, she sat on her bed and began to think. Tomorrow, she would have to try something, something different than today, as it would be suspicious. The thing was... What can she do to actually manage to talk to Mari... Slumping a bit, she leaned her head on her hand, when...

... Someone jumped behind her. Her instincts that she gathered from training martial arts took in and she quickly grabbed the offenders arm, turning it so it would be impossible to harm her. Until she noticed who it actually was. Eyes widening, she let go of her friends hand as quickly as she caught it. "He, sorry about that!" she said, smiling slightly. "Didn't really expect you there, thought you were... she trailed off, frowning. Marielle was literally in her bed moments ago... Or some pillows stuffed to make her seem asleep. But, why would Marielle go through all that just to frighten her... Then, realisation hit her and she couldn't help but smile widely. Of course! Not only she would be the one who would want to keep their friendship together. Marielle had just as a big part in it as did she. But even so, Saryana wasn't going to take the flight lightly. "You scared me there! she said, grabbing onto her pillow and hitting Mari with said pillow, trying to seem mad. But her eyes pretty much lied, having a playful flame instead. And, probably the smile she had just a while ago as well.

One moment, Mari was shouting "Boo!" and jumping on her friend, the next she was twisted around with her arm pinned behind her back painfully. She cried out more in shock than from pain, because she'd forgotten Sary had trained with martial arts before and holy cow! Sary was quick to react! "Ow."

Mari giggled slightly at her friend who was profusely apologizing for nearly wrenching Mari's arm out of her socket. Mari smiled, "It's okay. I tried to trick you into thinking I was asleep! Wh--" With a huge smack, Mari felt a pillow hit her on the arm and looked down. Well, two could play at that game. She jumped up and grabbed Sary's other pillow and brought it down on her friend's head playfully. She hadn't had a pillow fight in a long time and they were the best at bringing friends close again! Squealing in delight and enjoyment, Mari continued the pillow fight with Sary until both collapsed back onto Sary's bed.

She had missed this, missed randomly playing around before bed with Sary, missed pulling Sary into shenanigans and on adventures, missed her friend. It was good to know that Sary had felt the same, evidenced by the playfulness in her eyes. Mari sighed and looked up at the top of Sary's four poster bed, watching the fabric and tracing patterns in its stitching with her eyes. She reached her arms above her head and let them fall back against the bed with an exhaled "whuff," before softly saying, "We're in the same dorm. And the same classes. How have we gone this long without doing something like this? And it can never happen again; it was sad without my future Minister."

To be honest, Saryana had never had a pillow fight. After all, her best friend at home was a boy and sleep overs with him were different. And probably more dangerous than hitting someone with a blob of softness, as their fights mostly consisted of tackling one another to the ground. And once, though accidentally, she sent him in his toilet bowl. But never was she used to simply hitting someone with a pillow, this time without the determination to win, to have victory. This time, it was just to have fun. And, somehow, this version was just as loved from Saryana as the old one. Maybe more, considering that there wasn't the chance of any blood loss.

After a while, Saryana began to feel a bit exhausted. Had it been earlier, she probably would have went on but now? Now she should technically be asleep, dreaming and awaiting the next day. However, this time with Mari was more important than some good night sleep and she could just fall asleep while waiting for her potion to brew tomorrow anyway. As Mari fell down onto her bed, Saryana hit her one more time before plopping down herself. Even if this fight didn't have a victor, she could still be proud with having the last hit. And Saryana was a proud individual that needed to feel as if she won in something. Actually, it wasn't even feeling it - she knew it if only because she knew how well she does in anything. Saryana pressed the pillow she was holding over her head - it seems that when she is half asleep, her mind can't really stay in one place or even make sense. Oh well.

Smiling, she chuckled at what Mari said. It was true. They had so many things to drag them together and yet they seemed to have drifted so far apart. And it sucked, because they were friends, best friends, and couldn't simply lose each other like that. She knew that they would try anything to drag on another back together again. Saryana felt a reaction from Mari and then realised that she must have said everything out loud. Coughing a bit from embarrassment, though it should have gone by as a simple cleaning of a throat, she added. "I'm glad that we're here, tonight... After all, where to without my future dress robe designer? How can I become Minister of Magic when I don't even look me best, right?" She said, smiling widely, before she turned her head, and body, actually, towards her friend, the smile still staying strong on her face.

After hearing out whatever Mari had to say, Saryana stood up in a sitting position and leaned into her friend with curiosity showing in her eyes. [b]"Now, after all this time away I expect to know of you! Where have you been, who've you met?" she asked before smirking deviously. "Have any new boy friend?" she asked, laughing. Her mother often liked to ask her that question if Saryana had gone off somewhere for a long time, even if it was just for an hour. Though she hated to be the one asked the question, it was fun to ask it to someone else! Of course, she would never think of something such seriously and neither would Mari. However, jokes were fun and we're exactly the thing needed for their friendship to mend back. When the question was answered, Saryana sighed and plopped back on her bed, looking up to the ceiling.

Mari had missed hanging out with Saryana. She was her first and closest friend at Hogwarts and Mari loved her. It would be the worst thing to ever happen to Marielle. Sary just made Mari's life happy and fun. She helped Mari with her schoolwork and pushed her to be better, always striving for success, while Mari helped Sary learn how to relax. They were the perfect balance of each other, and both just as loyal to their friends as the most loyal of Hufflepuffs.

Collapsing back onto the bed beside Sary, one hand over her head and the other resting on her stomach. Sary's bed was warm and comfortable, her pink and white polka-dot pajamas soft. She rolled onto her side and looked at her best friend while she spoke, smiling when Sary mentioned Mari as her fashion designer when Sary becomes Minister of Magic. She certainly hoped so! "With me, you'll be the best dressed Minister of Magic that's ever existed. Plus, I can help you meet people! Like a n... neg.. no, not negotiator... a... umm... net... what's the word?" Sary would know the word. Sary knew everything. Or, not everything, but more than Mari did!

When Sary asked if she had a boyfriend, Mari pulled a disgusted face, shoving her tongue out and squinting one eye. "Blech. Boys are gross. But! Casey's pretty cool. He's the sixth year boy Muggle in Slytherin. I knew at least one Muggle would be Slytherin! He's grumpy, and super funny, and he totally just wants someone he can talk to. His parents are jerks. Oh, and then there's Honora. She was kind of weird. She's this fifth year, but she and Casey didn't like each other like at all. Still don't really understand it. But then, there's Marc. He's a fifth year too, like Honora, and he's hilarious and super funny and fun and Sary, you have to meet him! He's like me, only fifth year! And, he said I was cool for cartwheeling down the entrance steps banister! Oh, and Andrea, she's a sixth year Muggle, but she's in Gryffindor. She and Casey would be a cute couple." Mari paused to think about if she'd met anyone else. Sary already knew Tabs, since they were in the same year, and she'd been in the class when the Potions Professor had paired them up and Mari had exploded the potion on step three. Or was it step two? She didn't remember.

"And I don't know if you know Ross. He's a first year muggleborn in Slytherin. He was adorable. Nervous, confused, and super adorable. You should meet him! Who have you met in the last few weeks?" Mari asked of her best friend. Sitting here, talking like this, was comforting to Mari. She'd missed simply spending time in her best friend's presence and it was relaxing. Soothing.

Saryana couldn't help but smile when Mari mentioned how she would be the best dressed Minister of Magic. Well, there was nothing she could say against that! Mari was a brilliant designer, what Saryana had managed to see from her note books was enough! And not only was she good - she was great and, with time, would become perfect. Even though for Saryana who had no experience in art, she already was perfect. However, art and the mastery of words were two different things and Saryana couldn't help but chuckle. "Do you mean networker? As in, someone who will help me find people with who I can have connections with?" she asked, tilting her head a bit.

Seeing her friend's reaction to the question about having a boyfriend, Saryana couldn't help but laugh out loud, hard. It was the same reaction she had herself, just not expressed vocally or expressively, just as an annoyance to her mother. However, her head quickly fell down when Mari began to explain everyone she had met. Saryana hardly managed to grab onto everyone. By the end of it, the only name she could still remember was Casey, who probably was mentioned three or four times and Ross, who was told about last. How, how did Mari manage to meet so many people in just so few weeks? It was insane! Saryana definitely did expect that Mari would have meet a lot of people. But for Saryana, a lot was 3. Not ten. Ten was an enormous number when it comes to friends. And Mari decided to take that enormous number and make that much friends

It took Saryana a while to notice that her mouth was actually open, though slightly, in amazement at her friend. Sighing, the Ravenclaw shook her head. "Listening to you, I really need a networker.... The only person I met was a guy I asked to help me study Arithmancy and he turned out a jerk instead. And both my parents agree on that and they never agree!" she muttered at the end before forcefully plopping down on the bed. From the time that the guy told her that she wraps people around her finger, she had been too careful. It often took her a few seconds to start to say something just so she can run it through her mind to make sure it isn't manipulating. She hoped that no one had noticed that, especially a teacher. The last thing she wanted was people thinking of her as paranoid just because of a jerk she met in the library once. And she already dealt with him.

Shaking her head, she forced herself to stand up again and smile. There was no way she was allowing Mari to see her suffering. Mari was such a pure and nice and amazing person and didn't need to get sad from something such. And besides, today was the day that they get back together as the strongest and loyalist friends. It was not the time for her to get sad and definitely not the time for her to get worked up because of a jerk. Smiling, she turned to Mari. She needed something to let her attention away from this and fast. And what was the best way than to return to their previous conversation? Her smile almost turning into a smirk, Saryana cleared her throat so it doesn't show any emotion it did before. "So, how did you meet all those people, anyway? Seriously, tell me the secret to that, oh great Mari, the one who can converse with all!" at the end, Saryana couldn't help but laugh. After all, it was funny. Even though Saryana probably didn't have the best sense of humour, actually.

Mari knew she could always count on Saryana to fill in whatever words Mari forgets. And she tends to forget words often. Like, Ne..Networker! Or... The one that Finding Nemo lived in. A mnenomi? nemenenomi? Amenenomi? Ah, whatever. She knew what she meant and if she blubbered enough about it, Sary usually figured out the word. So Sary could finish Mari's blubbered words and Mari would find Sary people to network with and talk to and meet! Perfect friendship, right there. Or at least, Mari thought so. And hoped Sary did too.

Snuggling into Sary's bed a little more, still on top of the comforter, but burrowing her way into the actual mattress, Mari felt at peace. She could feel how her best friend found her comment about boys hilarious, as a warmth spread from her belly, indicating happiness and humour. Mari smiled a small, secretive smile at her friend. She loved to see Sary just relax like this. It brought her walls down, made her more approachable. Almost, less regal and intimidating, which would definitely help when she became Minister, but for now, Mari thought her friend needed to relax a little more and let go. Have fun. So when she did, it was always a good thing to see.

Sary then said she'd met only one person in the past few months and Mari realized how badly she really did need to be the networker for her friend in addition to fashion expert! And for that one person to turn out to be a jerk? Ugh, poor Sary! "What did he say? Was he super mean? Should I get one of my older friends to get him for you?! Wait... Did you say your parents agreed on something?!" Mari jumped up so she was standing on Sary's bed, bouncing lightly on the mattress and looking down at her friend. "That's a miracle!" Sary had told her stories about how her parents never agreed on anything, arguing all the time over silly, mundane things. She fell back and landed starfish on the bed, her arms and legs splayed out beside her, her hair all over as she lay next to Sary again.

"Talking to people isn't supposed to be hard. I just do it. Casey was mad so I asked him what was wrong. I talked to Honora because I literally ran straight into her and called her pretty. I talked to Marc 'cause I twisted my ankle and he came down and made me laugh and brought me to the Hospital wing. And Andrea was lost, 'cause she's one of the muggle students, so I helped her back to her dorm, kind of. And Ross looked kind of lonely at the bonfire last month so I talked to him." She shrugged. She hadn't really thought that there was a specific formula to talking to people, because it was just something she did without thinking about it.

Saryana wanted to sigh in annoyance when the topic was returned to that guy. She really did. But she that she couldn't - not with Mari... After all, in reality, she really just wanted to know what the problem was with her. And... This was Mari. Literally no one could be annoyed by her or dislike her, unless they were such a jerk to her... And even then, Mari would probably be nice. Because that was what she was - a simply great person that Saryana wanted to protect from all bad things in the world. When she becomes Minister, she would do her best to make sure Mari wouldn't have any problems in life, at least as much as she could help.

Biting her lip to try and figure out what to say, she decided to start from the start. "You know I want to study Arithmancy earlier, right? Well, I went to the library to get some books. Then I noticed he had a book on that subject, so I went and asked if he could tutor me. He went on about me needing permission, which sounds stupid... I wanted to know why, he fully ignored my question and then told me to go away. Then I said that I don't want him as my tutor and walked away. So, he ran up to me and... Said that I'm manipu-manipulating my parents and..." she closed her eyes, trying to calm herself. Lier and manipulater, those were the two type of people she hated and which she had been called just throughout this year. Of course, one was out of anger but it still hurt. Rubbing her eyes in case she began to cry, she sighed. She can't have Mari seeing her cry.

"I wrote to my parents about what happened." she finished the story before adding, smiling a bit. "Yeah, they agreed over something all right - that he is a jerk and I should stay away from him!" she said, laughing a bit at the end. It really was rare for the two adults to agree on something that when it did, it was hilarious. It was like the question and answer game - one person thinks of a question with 'Why..." and the other thinks of an answer with 'Because...'. When the two phrases didn't fit in, it was funny but you won't laugh as hard as the other times when you get a correct answer to the question. It was the irony of having the unusual happening. And that's the case with these two - their arguments may be many and down right foolish but you know it's amazing when they agree. Though, a debate did come if Saryana acted more like one or the other...

"Mari, stop making everything seem so simple... It's not so simple to talk to people... I mean, what if you seriously screw-" Saryana stopped herself mid sentence when she realised one particular thing. "You twisted your ankle? she asked, face palming. Typical Mari... "Mari, what the hell were you doing, sliding on ice or something?" she asked, though not as a mother being bad with their child but rather as a person who... Well, an interested friend. And, it's not like it wasn't possible. Now Saryana could see Mari just sliding all along the frozen lake, not even fearing to fall in or even wearing the correct shoes and then - slide! - she falls down and twists her ankle. Though, Saryana didn't voice her worries out loud because Mari could just like the idea and do it anyway. Which wasn't what Saryana preferred happening. "Only you... she muttered, shaking her head.

Mari was starting to become annoyed, an emotion she'd never felt before. She'd never been actually annoyed at someone, especially when it was her own feelings and not a feeling someone else was causing her to have because of her special ability. Often, her empath ability made her feel emotions she did not really want to feel, or did not relate to, but they were there anyways. But she'd never felt annoyed all on her own. It was a new feeling, and one she hoped to never repeat. But the more Sary talked, the more annoyed Mari became.

"He said you were manipulating your parents? You wouldn't manipulate a fly! He obviously doesn't know you very well." Her feeling of annoyance grew worse when she realized Sary was trying not to cry. Someone had hurt her poor Sary and she was going to find them and tell them how she felt. Which was angry. And annoyed. Two emotions that had been foreign to her before this conversation. Jerk. She moved closer to Sary so she could wrap her arms around her friend, holding her close and sighing. "Sary, someone will teach you Arithmancy. I'm sure of it. Just, maybe avoid that jerk next time. And besides, I don't think you need to have permission for a student to show you other magics, especially because this is a magic school and he whole point is to promote and encourage learning. The library isn't going to not lend you a book because it's for third years only. If you want to learn it, nothing will be stopping you. I know you." She smiled and hugged her friend one more time before moving away in case Sary didn't like hugs. She figured if her friend wanted her to continue the hug, she'd pull Mari back in, because her friend was not shy about her feelings.

When Sary asked if she'd twisted her ankle sliding on the ice or something, Mari blushed and crouched her head down, trying to hide in a similar fashion to turtles hiding in their shell. "Um... I may have done cartwheels down the banister of the castle entrance steps and slipped on some frost? I totally did two cartwheels successfully first, though! It was the third one when I slipped... But it was okay! Marc was there to help me to the hospital wing, even though it's stinky and gross and smells like that medicine you have to have when you're sick as a kid? You know, the one that smells like escargot." Mari kind of blushed again and tried to hide in her pajamas shirt, because she knew Sary would either shake her head or be annoyed that Mari had done something stupid. Even though it wasn't that stupid, because she only got a little hurt. And it had been fun.

Upon hearing Mari's words about her not being able to manipulate anyone, Saryana let out a small smile. It was definitely reassuring to hear her friend tell her that. She really was the best friend one could ever have... And though Mari was much more like a Hufflepuff at times rather than a Ravenclaw, Saryana was glad that, in the end, she wasn't one. To be frank... She had no idea what she would do had it not been Mari by her side. It wasn't a world she would want to live in, as they phrase says. "Thank you, Mari." She told her, calmer from a while ago. Oh, what had she done to even deserve Mari, such a good friend she was...

When Mari suddenly hugged her, Saryana tensed at first but quickly relaxed in the hug. As she listened to what her friend had to say, she couldn't help but smile widely. She didn't stop her at any time while she spoke, finding it calming just to listen to her. As soon as Mari finished, Saryana giggled slightly. "You're probably right... I'll definitely have that for future notice! Maybe you could help me find someone worth teaching me!" She continued to smile, glad that they were hugging. When her friend let go of the hug, she bit her lip before pulling her back into another one, for once not finding a problem with it. Not that she really hated hugs, actually, just not long ones. "Mari, you are... super... cali... fragilistic... expialidocious!" She exclaimed, remembering an old favourite film of hers. Though, she had a bit of a problem to pronounce the word.

As Saryana listened to Mari's explanation about how exactly she managed to get herself hurt, she couldn't help but shake her head in disappointment. Only Mari would manage to do something so bizarre, especially in the win... No, it had to be done exactly during the winter because it's more dangerous then! Making a small roll with her eyes, she sighed. "Mari, I need you to be alive until the time I become Minister! Who will be there to make sure I'll be doing things correctly? Not to mention, you'll be making my clothes - and I prefer to have good ones!" She purposely rose her head high in the air, as some of the pretentious students she's seen during all her years in the two schools of hers, before starting to laugh. "Seriously, though... Be careful!" She smiled widely and leaned back in her pillow, feeling better than she had during the last few days. Calm and... Happy.

I'm a very happy-go-lucky girl who grew up in a pureblood family. My papa is a distant relative of the late Severus Snape, and my maman is a French Pureblood. I went to a muggle primary school until I got my Hogwarts letter. Check out my application for more info!

Giggling at Sary's thanks, she exclaimed, "It's no problem, Sary! You know you're my bestest friend." And they were best friends. Mari didn't think she'd ever have to doubt that, because they complimented each other so well. She could always count on Sary to notice if she was having problems with her empathy, and Sary could always count on Mari to say something to lighten the mood at any given time. Even if it was probably the wrong time half of the time.

With Sary's gratitude, the last bit of her annoyance at the older student dissipated, leaving her feeling a little disjointed and uncertain of herself because of the anger and annoyance that had originated from her this time. They hadn't begun as a reaction she felt from someone else's uncontrollable emotions, but from her own feelings. And that had made her nervous. But then Sary was pulling her back into the hug and all thoughts of anger and annoyance were pushed from her mind because Sary was hugging her! "Yeah! I heard of this fifth Slytherin year that's supposed to be really good at Arithmancy. Want me to figure out who he is? I could totally introduce you!" Mari smiled widely and leaned back on Sary's bed, relaxing into the soft comforter and mattress, turning on her side as Sary called her supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Which was a super long word and Mari was surprised she remembered it when Sary said it.

Blushing sheepishly, Mari gave a sort of apologetic grin to Sary. "I saw an older student do it... I just wanted to try it! And you'll do everything correctly. Have you met yourself, Sary? I've never seen anyone who can be Minister more than you. But I'll definitely stay alive to make your clothes! Because a Minister needs to be the best dressed person in the room and I think by that time, I'll be able to make super awesome robes for you!" She had a few designs, but needed to work on her skills more before she could open her own shop as a bespoke tailor. Eventually, though, her dream would come true because she'd make it come true. She'd be making custom clothes for people, fitting the clothes to their specific measurements. It was her dream.

Slowly, throughout the conversation, Mari had begun to drift off, curled into the warm comforter and duvet. It felt like Sary's bed was holding her so perfectly that she could fall asleep and she was getting close. Snuggling closer to her best friend, she turned onto her back and looked up at the canopy with a soft, sleepy smile. "Let's not go this long without talking ever again, okay? I missed you too much."
