Live the Magic
We are only as strong as we are united

THE INTERNATIONAL STATUTE OF TRANSPARENCY

"On this day, the thirteenth of June of the year two thousand and thirty four, in the spirit of honesty, safety and the equality of all mankind, the magical population and the non-magical population will no longer remain hidden from one another, but will be unified as one. Rather than withholding from one another, we today take a step toward a better future, as the union of two such extraordinary cultures and resources promises a betterment in quality of life for all. This statute applies to every living being that is capable of thinking and reasoning for itself. Either Discrimination or Deceptiveness in respect to the statute are both considered the highest form of noncompliance in all countries involved, and are punishable as treason. Every world leader, both magical and non-magical, have signed this statute in agreement that Transparency between the respective communities of the world is the best path toward knowledge and peace."

The New Year Even seemed a strange holiday to Ardu. It wasn't a day when the Good triumphed, like the end of either of the Wizarding Wars. It wasn't a special day in Nature's cycle, like Solstice. And yet, all wizards celebrated it eagerly. In Hogwarts, the curfew was lifted, which allowed students to stay awake during this transition from one totally unremarkable day to another. Humans.
<br><br>
Nevertheless, Ardu was going to take a part in the celebration, as well, and he chose Hogsmeade as the place to be in, this night. The castle had too many stairs for Ardu's liking, and the stairs weren't designed with his kin in mind. True, Ardu was able to climb them, awkwardly, but it felt like reading the stars in cloudy weather. The centaur taught his classes either outside or on the ground floor, so he rarely faced this ladder problem.
<br><br>
But as it turned out, Hogsmeade had its downsides: the majority of people either packed themselves inside several buildings, mostly Three Broomsticks and Hog's Head, or enjoyed their carriage rides. Not many just stood outside, so Ardu felt alone, walking the streets of Hogsmeade. The centaur could try to squeeze through a door and join the fun inside, but it was so crowded that even if he managed it, he would probably step on too many feet and create too much of an inconvenience.
<br><br>
It snowed. There was still plenty of time till the fireworks, and Ardu hoped to taste some food and drinks. Maybe some of it was unique to the New Year Eve? Three Broomsticks served Butterbeer, Hog's Head served Firewhiskey, and Madam Puddifoot's presumably served tea. Meeting someone outside who could share a drink would be most appreciated for Ardu. Even better, if someone could get inside and buy a Butterbeer specially for the centaur. But so far, there was no people, just snow.

Christmas break at Hogwarts was a good time for recreation, family visits, and interviews. The last word was unfamiliar to Ardu until recently, but short after he had heard it, the meaning was clear thanks to context. Apparently, everyone in the wizarding world was eager to know how the new Statute and presence of muggle students affected the school. And Christmas break was a perfect time to ask questions: neither students nor professors were in a hurry; no classes, no homework.
<br><br>
Several well-known newspapers sent their reporters to Hogwarts to hear the very first stories of educational cooperation between muggles and wizards. And Ardu was determined to answer a couple of questions as well. After all, his words were going to be written in some thin books. A sure way to secure one's place in history and enlighten wizards with some simple centaur wisdom.
<br><br>
It was snowing, so Ardu decided to spend some time in gamekeeper's hut. The gamekeeper had left Hogwarts for Christmas, leaving Ardu the hut and many creatures to care for. The centaur was an obvious choice, considering he spent all his life deep in the Forbidden Forest, where all kinds of creatures dwelt. Usually, doors and ceilings were too low for Ardu to feel comfortable, but the hut once belonged to a half-giant, so there was no problem with space. Giants were so huge that even a half-giant stood taller than a centaur. The fact Hogwarts used to have such creature as the gamekeeper turned out to be very convenient for Ardu.
<br><br>
The centaur filled a kettle with water, threw some herbs there, and started a small fire. Herblore was an important part of centaurs' knowledge, as it could make them understand the start more clear. The purpose of this particular drink, however, was just being spicy and refreshing. As the water with herbs was slowly boiling, a vanilla-like smell filled the hut. Ardu sat in the middle, all four legs folded, and entered some kind of meditational half sleep, waiting for the drink to get ready, thinking what else he could teach the students.
<br><br>
But still, his interest in these interviews disrupted other, calmer and more tranquil thoughts. How could he know it, when a reporter arrived at Hogwarts? Would anyone from the staff tell him? And what if only certain professors had an honor to share their stories with the world? However, when the drink was almost ready, and the whole hut smelled of vanilla, the centaur managed to get himself free of such thoughts.

Not an actual image of Ardu, just a picture from Harry Potter wiki, so people get an idea about centaurs.
</div><br>

<div style="text-align: left; font-size: 25px; line-height: 100%; letter-spacing: -3px; border-bottom: 1px solid rgba(0,0,0,0.7); margin-bottom: 2px;">Appearance</div>

<div style="text-align: justify; font-size: 11px; line-height: 100%;">
<br>
Horse-wise, Ardu has chestnut coat, with the tail of a slightly lighter shade. Human-wise, brown hair and heavy freckles match his coat perfectly. Despite being relatively petite for a centaur, Ardu still towers over almost any human. Just like any of his kind, he has a muscular build and an abundance of chest hair, which gives him a pretty manly appearance in humans' eyes, that doesn't quite match his more gentle personality.
<br><br>
In any season and any weather, Ardu never wears clothes to keep him warm and dry. The only exceptions so far were festivals. But even then, his costume has always been limited: on the last Halloween, for example, Ardu only wore a fake unicorn horn and a silver wig. He tried wearing robes previously, but found them incredibly uncomfortable. When it comes to accessories, however, Ardu always has at least one: his quiver. Made of leather and decorated with traditional ornaments, it is as stylish as it is practical. Most centaurs don't know about the "stylish" part, though. Some older ones don't even have this word in their vocabulary.

</div><br>

<div style="text-align: left; font-size: 25px; line-height: 100%; letter-spacing: -3px; border-bottom: 1px solid rgba(0,0,0,0.7); margin-bottom: 2px;">Colony History</div>

<div style="text-align: justify; font-size: 11px; line-height: 100%;">
<br>
The Second Wizarding War changed centaurs' views on their isolation. From pariah Firenze was turned into a hero and was accepted back into the Forbidden Forest colony. Apparently, associating with wizards and carrying human kids on the back weren't unforgiving crimes against the centaur society anymore. Firenze's example shown that dedication to the greater good was often more important than sticking to traditions; and his tale was told to all young centaurs in the Forbidden Forest colony since then, including Ardu.
<br><br>
The Battle of Hogwarts also led to appreciation of the Forbidden Forest colony by the wizarding world and, namely, by Hogwarts school. So, despite centaurs still used their own concealment methods, they often made contacts with wizards, purchasing (and often being given) books and magical items. Still, in the year 2035, the Centaur Liaison Office still hasn't been used. The Forbidden Forest colony became closer to wizards, but its centaurs still had their respect. A liaison office, pfft.

</div><br>

<div style="text-align: left; font-size: 25px; line-height: 100%; letter-spacing: -3px; border-bottom: 1px solid rgba(0,0,0,0.7); margin-bottom: 2px;">Personal History</div>

<div style="text-align: justify; font-size: 11px; line-height: 100%;">
<br>
Most humans wouldn't understand the concept of a centaur colony. They think in terms like "family" or "organization". None of which are applicable to centaurs, though. They don't have family names, for the start. So just any foal centaur, Ardu didn't have any special affection for his parents. He belonged to the colony, not just two individuals.
<br><br>
From a young age, Ardu was taught archery and divination, two subjects that are most important for centaurs. And in both of them, Ardu succeed only partly. His reflexes were fast and mind quick, but his eyesight was not good enough for hunting and shooting at long distances. His senses exceeded human ones, of course, but they were subpar compared to other centaurs. Just as Ardu was literally short-sighted, his divination ability suffered from the same problem. He couldn't see far enough in the future, although he was able to foresee a lot.
<br><br>
With such disadvantages, Ardu could barely count to be mentioned in songs and tales. But the recent cooperation with Wizards opened a new way for him to achieve greatness and make his colony proud. For example, he could teach wizards the basics of honor, explain them the idea of justice, and be an example of bravery. This might lead to a new chapter of mutual understanding between the two species, making Ardu an important figure in his colony's history.
<br><br>
On the other hand, he could learn from wizards as well. Despite most of them were lying power-hungry cravens, their knowledge of magic was miraculous. Sometimes humans committed crimes against nature to get such knowledge, but it didn't seem like such a big crime to get this knowledge from them, when it could be used to protect the Forbidden Forest against dark forces. Or simply against intruders.
<br><br>
So, in 2035, Ardu started a new life as a Hogwarts professor, in hope to help his colony and be remembered. And despite he had read a lot of human books and had some ideas about the wizarding world, teaching little kids without a talent for divination to read the future in the stars didn't seem like an easy task. But Ardu was a centaur, and centaurs were rarely afraid of difficulties.
</div><br>

<div style="text-align: left; font-size: 25px; line-height: 100%; letter-spacing: -3px; border-bottom: 1px solid rgba(0,0,0,0.7); margin-bottom: 2px;">Personality</div>

<div style="text-align: justify; font-size: 11px; line-height: 100%;">
<br>
Walking in his childhood hero's footsteps was one of Adru's dreams, and it's still an important part of his motives. Befriending wizards, working as a professor at Hogwarts, opposing dark forces, becoming a legend among his own colony. So far, the only thing from the list Ardu has achieved was getting a position at Hogwarts. He didn't see a great destiny written for him in the stars, but it could easily be just his fault as an observer. To some centaurs stars whisper about major events only, but for Ardu it is the other way around: he gets to foresee more mundane things, such as a successful hunt or a vague list of questions for his Hogwarts interview.
<br><br>
Despite being familiar with human culture through books and art, Ardu still can barely grasp the concept of humor. Jokes are difficult for him to understand, and almost impossible to intentionally make. On the contrary, what sometimes made wizards laugh, was his non-existing sense of humor. It was a very quiet laughter, no one wanted to deal with a huge creature classified as a relatively dangerous beast.
<br><br>
Humans would probably describe Ardu as kind and forgiving, and it would be mostly true. Like any centaur, Ardu has a strong sense of honor, and he would never do anything that goes against his ideas of it. Centaurs' honor, however, may seem quite strange to humans: they can easily kill for an insult or trespassing, but never kill young or harmless. Cowardice is considered one of the worst and the most shameful weaknesses by his kin (as was well proven by Hagrid once), so Ardu had mastered the control of his fears. As a drawback, he can be easily tricked by challenging his courage. "What's wrong McFly? Chicken?"

Jean's childhood went as unremarkable as a childhood in wizarding France could possible go. Born to middle class halfblood parents, Jean spent his time reading moving comics, playing gobstones, and dreaming about a Quidditch player career. In Beauxbatons, the boy had many friends, an owl, and pretty good Transfiguration marks. But again, nothing remarkable. He couldn't complain, though: being the only child, Jean got enough attention and financial support from his parents, and Beauxbatons professors were ones of the best in the world.
<br><br>
It all went well until Jean's sixth year. During a lesson on self-defense against extremely dangerous creatures, he got bitten by a werewolf due teachers' slow reaction and some students' neglect of safety. The consequences of this accident were terrible: one weak every month Jean was sick, one night every month he was a monster. This led to problems with studying, despite Jean was provided with a time turner to give him more time to catch up to missed classes. He had additional time indeed, but there was no professor who would want to repeat a whole lesson once more just for Jean. Not to mention that most classes required teamwork to some extent.
<br><br>
Beauxbatons staff came up with a good cover story, and a few witnesses of the attack were asked to keep silence. Keeping Jean's condition in secret was crucial, otherwise many parents would prefer their children not to attend school at all. Alternatively they could ask French Ministry to expel Jean for good. In any case, there would result in a scandal of a grand scope: even if neither Jean nor any other students left the school, Beauxbatons safety would be compromised. So a secret it was. After graduating, even the highest grades in Transfiguration didn't help Jean to hold a decent position for long. Prejudice against werewolves was strong, and not many people were ready to risk their clients and employees to get killed, or worse, turned into werewolves as well.
<br><br>
Jean moved from one place to another, trying to keep his condition in secret, using fake identities.And when there was no more place in France to go, he decided to move to England. After changing a dozen jobs, Jean ended up working as a journalist for the Quibbler, a monthly magazine full of weird and often made up facts. It was the first place where he wasn't thrown out from, after his condition was exposed. And since it was a monthly magazine, Jean was able to take a sick leave for a week every month, providing he worked extra hard in the three other weeks.
<br><br>
Jean's life was good enough for him, but he couldn't sleep well, knowing that lots of other werewolves suffered from mistreatment and unemployment. He wanted the wizarding world to be a place of equal opportunities. A place without prejudice, hatred, and Beast Division. So when the Quibbler printing press was idle. Jean printed his leaflets there, which supposed to rally wizards to fight against inequality, raise the awareness of animal abuse, and ask to always buy the newest copy of Quibbler. The last line of the message was a part of the agreement between Jean and the magazine's owner: advertising the Quibbler in exchange for the permission to use the printing press.
</div><br>

<br>
Werewolves are known to attack people, but not other beasts. This trait probably influenced Jean's personality a lot: he often prefers animals' company is fond of most non-evil creatures. Despite he calls for radical reforms, Jean isn't any good at law, politics, or economics. He always listens to his heart, often valuing intuition more than calculation, firmly believing that the first thoughts are usually the right ones.
<br><br>
When someone uses facts and logic to reason with Jean, the latter often sees it as a straightforward beguile, mostly because he doesn't usually win arguments when logic is the weapon of choice. His actions often lack thought behind them as well, resulting in a relatively random and unpredictable behavior. Jean can barely control his emotions and is usually an open book for people to read. </div><br>

<div style="text-align: left; font-size: 25px; line-height: 100%; letter-spacing: -3px; border-bottom: 1px solid rgba(0,0,0,0.7); margin-bottom: 2px;">Appearance</div>

</ul>
Blazers, shirts, and jeans make most of Jean's garderobe. He is not a big fan of robes and considers most of them "boring and conservative". Also, he is sure that robes make him look shorter. Jean isn't as tall as most men of his age, and he doesn't want to make it even more obvious. For this reason, his boots usually have small heels. As someone who graduated with the highest grades in Transfiguration, Jean can always adjust his outfit in seconds, when he feels like it. And the height of his heels is the detail that gets changed the most often.
<br><br>
Jean has an interesting attitude towards colors in clothing. On one hand, he loves it when people wear something bright: orange, cyan, yellow, magenta. On the other hand, he himself prefers to stick to duller colors, like brown or gray, with jeans often being dimmer shades of blue.Bright colors don't suit him, he thinks. Closer to a full moon, he starts to lose perception of colors, as his wolf nature grows stronger. The lack of colors saddens him a lot, along with sickness and waiting for the inevitable transformation. The perception slowly returns as the moon starts waning.
<br><br>
Also, Jean has sideburns. He likes them. They are cool.
